VIRTUAL INTERVIEW HELPFUL TIPS

- Make sure your camera is eye-level (avoid looking down or looking up at your camera).
- You may stand or sit. If seated, please avoid swivel chairs.
- Treat the camera as if it is a person with whom you're speaking face-to-face.
- Treat this like you’re on-stage (avoid distractions emails, pets, phone, etc.).
- Your Space
- Select a quiet, private space (preferably with carpet and/or curtains).
- Avoid spaces with extraneous noises from nearby.
- Silence other devices, such as phones and tablets.
- Make sure all pets are contained outside the room you will be in.
- Avoid spaces with concrete walls, floors or exposed ceilings (too much echo).
- Make sure your space is well lit. Avoid bright lights behind you or using a dark room.
- Find a good room background (nothing too busy; solid color walls are best; furniture or
décor is okay—keep it tidy). - If necessary, post a sign on your door: “Interview in progress. Do not disturb.”
- If possible, sit facing a window to utilize natural light.
- Your Internet Connection
- Use a good quality laptop or desktop computer with built-in camera; (no tablets or travel
notebooks). - If possible, use a computer with a hardwired ethernet connection to yield the best
results. - If using WiFi, turn off other devices that are competing for bandwidth (i.e., tablets,
phones, other family laptops, game systems, smart TVs). - Close any open software programs that might make sounds or otherwise distract you.
- Place your home or office phone on "do not disturb" mode to minimize noise disruption.
- Always test your equipment and set-up before a scheduled interview.
- Miscellaneous
- When you are not speaking during the group events, please remember to mute yourself.
- There will be breaks throughout the schedule to allow you to take care of whatever
personal needs you have. - Our personal phone numbers have been included with your interview information.
Please keep them handy in case there are issues throughout the interview day.
